Facebook Acquires Whatsapp
There is one thing that Facebook and Whatsapp have in common: They are both social messeaging app that cut across all devices be it Nokia, iPhone, and Android devices.
There is also one thing that they dont have in common: Facebook believes in income generation via ads while Whatsapp do not believe in income generation via ads .
Whatsapp which is one of the apps that have seen positive usage since its inception in 2009 have been able to provide messaging services to countless number of people all over the world. The app doesnt charge a fee for sending text, audio or video messages, because it uses internet connection. One of the beautiful thing about this app is that it doesnt allow advertisement unlike other social messaging apps.
For some devices e.g Blackberry, Whatsapp is free to download while for some devices e.g iPhone it is a paid app. Nevertheless, this small app have continue to rise in popularity and have replaced the usage of SMS for many individuals.
It will be news worthy to note that Whatsapp do not generate income via ads
Facebook, a multi billion dollar company, is also a success story since it started. It is the number one social media sites in the world. This company have continue to grow exponentially, acquiring various companies e.g Instagram etc to further support their cause to be the leading social site in the planet.
Facebook generate income from ads placed on the website.
With all these acquiring that Facebook is getting, a recent information circulating the internet is the "potential" acquisition of Whatsapp social messaging app by the popular Facebook company.
Of course, the two companies involved hasnt said anything yet concerning this rumour. However, theres strong indication that there is an atom of truth in these rumors.
We will just chill for a while to see how true the rumours are.
What happens if Facebook acquires Whatsapp just as they did Instagram? Well, Whatsapp will obviously become a property of Facebook and will still continue to function, more income for the company and of course, users dont really care in as much as the app functions as it has always been.
The important thing is that it should get better rather get worse

The Sony Xperia Z Ultra has a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels paired with a pixel density of 342 pixels per inch, you get pictures that are razor sharp and superiorly bright. Its also extremely slim, at just 6.5 mm thick. Sony says it has managed to make the Ultra so slim that the 3.5 mm headphone jack is now the limiting factor, and that to make it even slimmer would require a redesigned audio output.
It has an 8 megapixel rear-camera with Exmor RS for mobile image sensor, which is claimed to be the first image sensor with HDR (High Dynamic Range) for videos and photos. The device has a two megapixel front camera. Essentially, you can use the phone to take full-HD videos underwater.

Samsung Galaxy NOTE III Lite in making

Samsung is doing work on making a lite version of its most popular NOTE phone the galaxy Note III. The new version will come with "lite" appendix with the name of Samsung Galaxy NOTE III. It is reported on rumors of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lite a little while back. To refresh the memories, the Galaxy Note 3 Lite is Samsungs planned lower-end version of its Note smartphone. There were also talks of it being leaked in four different variants earlier in the year. Well it seems that the rumors are still alive and it is quite possible that a Note 3 Lite may be released by the end of the first quarter, 2014.
Rumors are talking that the Note 3 Lite should make use of an LCD of either 5.5 or 5.7 inches. Apparently, the Mobile phone manufacturing giant is testing both sizes. Since it is a "lite" version of the phone, it would be better to assume that they will go with the smaller screen.
The source of the new rumor is SamMobiles twitter:

Apples New iOS 7 Would Reduce iPhone Theft
Sequel to the last meeting held between smartphone makers and some government agencies including security experts concerning the rate at which smartphone theft are becoming more prevalent in the society especially the iPhone which as been stolen more than any other smartphone.
Apple have made up a new way to deter thieves from stealing iOS devices.
This new feature which would be present in iOS 7 would help curb the rate at which iPhone, iPad and iPod are stolen.
To achieve this, whenever one of these devices is stolen, it would become impossible to erase. Before one can erase any of these devices running iOS 7, one would need to input both the Apple ID and password of the owner.

Without these parameters inputted, the device wont allow the anyone to erase and restore the device.
This will definitely serve as a deterrent to iDevice theft.
Although, its a good way to reduce smartphone theft for iDevices yet it far from complete.
Also, other smartphone manufacturers, Google and Microsoft, havent revealed a concrete way to stop thieves from going after their devices or render it useless even when stolen.
LoJack would be the app of choice to achieve this feat as its currently being tested for the possibility of being security app for reducing smartphone theft.
Apples method have been given a thumbs up by security experts and seems very promising.
Of course, like any human initiatives, there would be flaws and that suggests that Apples method wont cut it in the near future when a work around is implemented to bypass to security feature.

well, there is a way to achieve that without hurting the pocket deeply, and that way is to constantly sell your device, add a few bucks and you are set to buy a new device. However, the problem is finding a buyer and this where this post becomes useful.
1. eBay
eBay is very popular for its auction prowess and everyone knows it. Here you can put up your phone for sale by registering with eBay and then get a good image of your phone and place the advert. Since eBay is seen by millions of people, you should get a quick offer and therefore sell your phone.

However, you have to be very careful of fake people that may want to scam you of your device so you are advised to only sell to people with good rating and have joined eBay long enough.
2. DealDey
Well, this is even a better option for the Nigerian guys who want to sell their phones but cant go through eBay due to limitations.

DealDey is a perfect place to sell your phones. Like eBay, you need to signup and then place a good image of your marchandise on the DealDey webpage with the price and due date. Make sure your price is affordable so that you can quickly get a buyer. You may be surprised that in matters of days, your buyer would come and you will just add few bucks so that you can buy that dream phone.

Yes, nairaland is a good place to auction your phone. You would be surprised at the good deals you would get from selling your phone in Nairaland. This is especially useful to my Nigerian peeps that want to quickly sell their phone to get a new one.

One great thing about selling through nairaland is that you are not paying anyone any commission. Its totally a direct marketing of your phone. All you need do is go to the appropriate forum and announce your intention to see your phone, put all the features and specs and you should get a buyer in no time.

The weight (143 grams) and thickness (9.3 mm) only serve to add to the premium feel and

How To Customize All Sounds On Your Android Phone
Now you can customize every sound on your Android device. You can set the volume of ringtones, music, camera click-sounds etc with this little app which was done one of XDA developers programmers.
This app gives you total control over the volume and sound of all sound-enabled app.

Android’s Sound Settings page does not allow for a great deal of customization. Currently on vanilla Android, you are able to adjust media volume, ring/notification volume, and alarm volume. As we all know, however, there are many other volumes that you are able to control in different places in the Android OS.
Previously, adjusting these hidden volumes meant waiting for these sounds to take sound focus and adjusting the volume manually with the volume rocker. Now, there’s a better way, thanks to Ultimate Sound Control by XDA Senior Member nagasgura.
So what exactly can you do with Ultimate Sound Control? Well, the root-enabled application lives up to its name by allowing you to view and adjust all possible volumes on your device. This includes media, ring/notification, call, alarm, and system volume—all from one screen. Furthermore, you can easily disable any system sound, such as your camera shutter or low battery sound. (Please note that in some regions, disabling a camera shutter sound is illegal.)
Make your way over to the application thread to get your fix.
Normally, this application comes in two forms: a lite version that allows you to adjust any volume and disable any sound, and a pro version that adds the ability to replace any system sound with a sound of your choosing. However, for the next three days, the developer has generously made the premium version available for free in the XDA thread.

Sony Xperia M

Sony Xperia M is Sonys new hold on the low-budget smartphone sector. Though it has got low end specs, with a stunning design and affordable price, Xperia M does attract attention. Its spec isnt bad for its class; but may find low compared to its competitors. It sports a 4inch TFT display, 1 GB RAM and 1GHz dual-core processor supported by a strong graphics unit and a good battery. A dual SIM variant (Xperia M Dual) is also available.
BUILD / DESIGN
Sony Xperia M follows the footsteps of the Xperia family in design- result is a stylish device within the same framework but not too similar. Its a budget phone and hence the glass front and back panels on the high end Xperia phones have been swapped for a matte plastic body in the Xperia M. The Xperia M with a discreet curve at the back, gives a better grip and feel to hold in your hand.
Theres no keys on the front as it uses on-screen keys for navigating through the interface. Above the screen is the earpiece, the VGA front-facing camera, along with the proximity and ambient light sensors. Below the screen is the RGB notification light. On the Xperia Ms right panel there is the trademark aluminium power/lock button and standard volume rocker, next to a dedicated camera button. Xperia M gives a nice unibody impression, but is actually removable to access the battery and the card slots.
With dimensions of 124 x 62 x 9.3 mm Sony Xperia M is a medium sized device adequate for one hand operation and is light in weight with just 115g. It is available in black, white, purple and yellow colours.

DISPLAY
Being a budget phone it doesnt sport with the Sonys Bravia mobile engine or higher resolution display. Xperia M comes with a 4inch standard TFT display with a 854x480 screen resolution and about 245ppi. The displayss color rendering is good, but the white balance is not.
The viewing angles and sunlight visibility is not at all great. Its protected by some sort of scratch-resistant glass. The screen is one of the Xperia Ms weakest aspects. But for general browsing, texting and simple gaming, it will do an okay job.

SOFTWARE / INTERFACE
The Sony Xperia M is not to date with the latest version of Android (4.3/4.4). It runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean which is skinned with Sonys own UI and hence, it gives the same experience one can expect to get on most Jelly Bean-running Xperia handsets.
The lock screen features the usual shortcuts to the camera and music apps. Adding stuff to the homescreen is done using the pinch zoom out gesture or with a tap-and-hold on a blank area of a homescreen. Unfortunately, the custom-made Sony widgets in the Xperia M do not resize or re-arrange automatically when trying to place them, even though Jelly Bean supports that feature natively.
The keyboard in portrait mode is quite cramped and is difficult to type smoothly. The slide-down notification shade includes five toggles for quick access to settings like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. You can reject a receiving a call with a custom text message. There are a bundle of Sonys usual mobile apps on the phone, including music, video, Walkman, Reader, TrackID, as well as software for streaming content to other compatible Sony devices and tablets. One major feature of Xperia M is the NFC based one-touch sharing and connecting to sonys speakers and Bravia TVs.
Xperia M Dual(Dual SIM variant) runs on Android 4.2 and Sony has announced updates for both the M variants.

CAMERA
The 5MP rear camera has features like image stabilization, HDR, panorama, geo-tagging, touch and auto focus, LED flash, 4x digital zoom and theres also a dedicated camera button. It is also capable of shooting 720p videos at 30fps. The VGA front-facing camera can take photos and record video of standard quality.
The camera takes pretty good images outdoors when light is plenty, but its not the best. The pictures are sharp and exhibit a decent color reproduction if there is enough ambient light. However, the pictures are slightly blurred and muddy in just slightly poorer light conditions.
The camera UI is identical to the one used on the Xperia Z and Z1- of course, with less options. Though the shutter responds quickly to capturing images, focusing is a problem sometimes. The LED flash sometimes helps to make the pictures better under low light.

DUAL SIM (Xperia M DUAL)
Xperia M DUAL is the dual-SIM version, which supports dual-standby. This means that when one SIM is in use or in a call, the other SIM will appear to be unavailable or switched off if users try to call it.
BATTERY
The Li-Ion 1750mAh removable battery on the Xperia M isnt something big, but does a fine job as the device is equipped with low end specs and screen. The battery seems to drain quickly for heavy users, but for an average user it would last more than a day or two. Dual SIM variant uses a bit more power for obvious reasons.

MEMORY
Sony Xperia M comes with 4 GB of internal memory of which only about 2GB is user available. It has got 1 GB of RAM and microSD card support upto 32GB for expanding memory.

PERFORMANCE
Sony Xperia M is not a powerhouse. It has Qualcomms Snapdragon S4 SoC dual-core processor with a clock speed of 1GHz. Its backed up with 1GB RAM and an Adreno 305 graphics unit.
The specs on the Xperia M are more than enough for a device of its class. Basic Android apps run smoothly and navigating through interface is fast. It does supports higher games and apps to an extend. However browsing creates lags if theres a lot of animation on the pages and multitasking over a limit is not advised (no surprise!).

Could this be a first benchmark for the new Samsung Galaxy S5 coming out
A mysterious Samsung smartphone poetically named SM-G900S has appeared on the bench GFX Benchmark test. Noticed a shift in the nature of its technical platform that looks good what could animate the new cell phones coming out Galaxy S5.

Testing tools are regularly used as a source of information to discover future models of manufacturers. This is again the case here on the site GFX Benchmark, produced a new record attributed to manufacturer Samsung has occurred. It concerns the SM-G900S model. A code name that is similar to that of the Galaxy Round (SM-G910), as recalled by our colleagues TheDroidGuy who discovered this information. But since the Galaxy Round is still very new, the assumption of a successor is considered premature. However, some details of the technical details here proved strangely reminiscent of a flagship were talking about quite often in recent weeks: the new Galaxy S5 coming out. Especially since its release, rumored to be relatively close. So thats already more relevant hypothesis.
800 Snapdragon, Android Kitkat and display 2K
And this is not the only index that shows a beautiful flagship behind the SM-G900S. Starting with the chipset: Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 MSM8974 (theoretically clocked up to 2.3 GHz) supported by an Adreno 330 graphics processor. It is not 805 recently announced as Qualcomm has confirmed its availability in the summer. Commercialization too late for the S5. Another indicator, the screen whose definition reaches 2K HD (2560 x 1440 either). An earlier rumor spoke of this resolution. Finally, the version of Android, 4.4 Kitkat here. Samsung generally incorporates the latest version of Android in its high-end models. These three details are more or less indiscretions already disclosed the alleged next Samsung flagship. For the rest, no additional detail, unfortunately.
Can single iteration or advanced prototype?
If it turns out that SM-G900S is one of the incarnations of the new cell phone Samsung Galaxy S5 coming out to be published in the coming months (probably the first quarter of 2014), this configuration might define the international version. Because, historically, the Korean version of the S series includes a Exynos chipset, which should also undergo a nice update. Indeed, the ARM consortium said that Samsung currently conducting the final touches on his next home chipset, which would turn on a 64-bit architecture. He would go out with a bit of luck, just in time to host the next flagship.

How To Update To iOS 7 and Jailbreak It Untethered
iOS 7 for all supported Apple devices have been available for sometime now however not everyone has updated their compatible devices to this latest iOS version.

This can be partly due to the drastic makeover that iOS 7 brings doing away with the skeuomorphism found in iOS since its inception that so many people have come to love or partly due to the fact that there is no untethered jailbreak for iOS 7 until now.

If you fall into the category of those that havent updated to iOS 7 due to non availability of untethered jailbreak, then its time for you to upgrade because theres now a stable working jailbreak for iOS 7 and we shall be guiding you through the process after the break.
Note
1. If you depend on Gevey unlock solution, this process wont make Gevey work for you as your baseband would be updated. Therefore, you should stay away from this update until there is a way to preserve baseband while updating to iOS 7.
Needed Items To Upgrade To iOS 7
1. iOS 7 compatible Apple device (iPhone 4 and above, iPad 2 and above, iPod 5G and above, iPad mini 1&2)
2. Mac or Windows Computer
3. Internet Connection
4. 30mins max depending on your PC and connection speed.
5. iTunes 11 installed on your PC
Procedure
1. Download the iOS 7 firmware from here. Its advised that you shouldnt download or upgrade your device using the OTA option as it would cause problem when its time to jailbreak. If you already have iOS 7 running on your device and just want to jailbreak you need to be sure that you got to iOS 7 through iTunes and not through OTA update.
2. After download is complete, connect your device to the computer and then launch iTunes.
3. Let iTunes detect your device, click on it at the top right corner of the iTunes window and do a full backup of your iDevice. Also, you can do a backup of your blobs using iFaith in case you have plans to downgrade back to earlier iOS version if you dont like the iOS 7 on your device.
4. After the backups are complete, press and hold down Shift on your Keyboard while you click on Restore at the iPhone summary page, this should pop up another box.
5. Navigate to where you downloaded your iOS firmware earlier and select the iOS 7 IPSW.
6. iTunes would identify the firmware and begin restoring your device to iOS 7.
7. Once completed, you can setup your device for use and then we can go to the jailbreak section.
To jailbreak iOS 7 untethered, just follow the guide in the link below and you would see the quick steps to jailbreaking your iOS 7 untethered.
